Dr. Brad Klontz is Managing Principal at Occidental Asset Management, where he also serves as Executive Director of Financial Psychology and Behavioral Finance. In this role, he integrates behavioral science with wealth management to help clients reduce financial stress, align their finances with their values, and create lasting legacies for generations.
With over 25 years of experience, Dr. Brad is a nationally recognized expert in financial psychology. He is an Associate Professor of Practice in the Finance and Economics Department at Creighton University’s Heider College of Business and co-founder of the Financial Psychology Institute. His research and commentary have appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, TIME, USA Today, Good Morning America, and many other national media outlets. He has authored ten books, including the national bestseller Start Thinking Rich (2025).
Dr. Brad was inspired to pursue his career path after witnessing the emotional toll of financial struggles within his own family, leading him to pioneer the integration of mental health and financial planning. He serves on the CNBC Financial Advisor Council and is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, as well as a former President of the Hawaii Psychological Association.
Dr. Brad lives in Boulder, Colorado, with his wife and sons. He spent over two decades in Kauai, where he married his wife, welcomed his children into the world, and built a close-knit network of family and friends. Away from the office, he enjoys tennis, pickleball, playing guitar, fishing, and archery. Whether he’s coaching youth sports or helping clients find peace around money, Dr. Brad brings warmth, wisdom, and a deep sense of purpose to everything he does.
